The BKS Iyengar Yoga Center of Minneapolis is a well-established school of yoga study that has been at its present location at 2736 Lyndale Avenue South since 1987. We take a systematic approach to the practice of yoga. The classes taught at the Center are based on the teachings of Mr. Iyengar who based his teachings on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, the profound and timeless classical text of yoga. 

According to Patanjali, the correct practice and study of yoga can lead to health of the body, serenity of the mind and removal of the obstacles to spiritual evolution.

The Center will be closed Tues. 12/24 - Thurs. 12/26 and Tues. 12/31 -Wed. 1/1. 

Saturdays December 21 & 28, there will be one class only, from 8:30 - 10 a.m. All current Center students welcome!

  • Beginning/Level I classes are designed to introduce the vigorous Iyengar method of yoga to students newer to yoga or to the Iyengar method. These classes emphasize standing postures. They also include beginning seated and forward bending postures followed by passive supported postures.

Gratitude and good wishes to Center founders Kristin Chirhart and Lee Sverkerson, our local senior teachers for over 30 years, who provided for the Center's transition so we could continue our study and community in yoga.

Beginning/Level I Classes
For students newer to yoga or to the Iyengar Method, Standing poses and other fundamental postures are taught.
Meets weekly for 75 minutes. $60/calendar month for 1 class per week; $90/calendar month for 2 classes per week. $20 single. Students may join at any time.
  • ​Wednesdays 5:45-7 p.m.
  • Saturdays 10:30-11:45 a.m.
